What’s Zed Got Going On: 100 is more than a number

Welcome to this week’s edition of What’s Zed Got Going On?

100 isn’t just a number.  100 isn’t just a number.

There are numbers that mean a lot and numbers that come and go.  “1” is always a milestone, as is “5” and “10.”  “2” and “17”?  Not as much.  “42” is the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything.  “50” is a nice round number and “75” gets back into milestone territory.

But 100?  That’s something special.  This past Tuesday, we at Zed’s Beer brewed our 100th batch of beer.  And while I’m disappointed that neither Lori nor Tommy were able to make the session, I was able to share the brew day with my good friend, Glenn Sloves.  It was a special day for me because Glenn was diagnosed with stage 4 bladder cancer a bunch of months back.  And the last beer Glenn had before starting treatment was Zed’s on the West Coast—IPA v8.

So I’m thrilled that Glenn’s first beer after treatment will be a beer that he helped design and brew.  Tentatively called Zed’s Back on the Road—fasZ Rák IPA, this beer should clock in at 6.2%ABV and a whopping 82 IBUs.  Glenn likes it spicy and lemony so we delivered with a hop profile featuring Tettnang, Brewer’s Gold, Cascade, Centennial and a generous amount of Sorachi Ace.

To celebrate Glenn’s achievement, Zed’s Beer will be donating $1.00 of every pint sold during launch weekend to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.  And the Sloves are generously matching our donation!  Read all about Glenn’s hard work here.

Yea for us!  Yea for us!

We’re very happy to proclaim that Zed’s Beer/Bado Brewing has won another medal!  Our Zed’s in Ireland—Dry Stout just took a gold medal at the U.S. Open Beer Championships!  This is actually the second medal that I’ve won for this recipe—as a homebrewer I took at Blue Ribbon in the regionals at the National Home-brew Convention the year before turning pro.  As for Zed’s Beer, this is our fifth medal in 2019!  Yea for us!

Pour it Forward!  Pour it Forward!

What’s on the Pour It Forward this week?  “if you’re a twin or married to a twin.” “someone who can name 3 players on the US Women’s World Cup championship team.” “a cherokee high school teacher.”
